COACHING CAREER:

Ned Mircetic began his coaching career at St. Bonaventure High School in 1982. He coached at Oxnard College and in 1985 moved to Ventura College as Assistant Men’s Coach. In 1990 he was named Head Women’s Coach at Ventura College, and led his team to unparalleled success.

Under Coach Mircetic, Ventura College won five state championships in seven straight finals appearances (1996-2002), advancing to the state final four 10 consecutive seasons.
Ventura College has won 16 consecutive Western State Conference North Division titles, and has a better than 87% winning record, including 97% in WSC games.

Coach Mircetic is the fifth-winningest coach in California community college basketball history. Among the top 10, Coach Mircetic has the highest winning percentage (.883). His five state championships are unmatched, and only two other coaches have won two titles.

Coach Mircetic has been named State Coach of the year twice, and WSC Coach of the Year six times.

Even more than his winning, Coach Mircetic cares about the accomplishments of his athletes in the classroom. In 2002 the Pirates were honored as the top academic team in the state, winning the COA State Scholar Team Award, with a team GPA of 3.37, and was the first team in California, in any sport, to win both the State Championship and scholar team award in the same year.

Three times the team has been recognized by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association on their National Academic Honor Roll. Through the years, the team has consistently earned a 3.0 or better GPA.

Coach Mircetic’s players have also excelled on and off the court. Along with numerous All-WSC players, there have been 22 All-State honorees, seven State co-players of the year and two Kodak All-Americans. 74 have gone on to four-year colleges and universities and most have received degrees. Many have gone into coaching – an honor to their mentor.

Coach Mircetic highly admires John Wooden, and has adopted much of his philosophy. His trademark is “Play hard”. This is more than winning or losing - this means giving your best effort all the time. This becomes a way of life and allows our students to achieve their full potential and therefore achieve success both on the basketball court and off the court.

Coach Mircetic and his wife Kim have been married for 23 years, and have one daughter, Keeley.
