Mike
McCormick, who was born in Angels Camp, California, on May 6,
1917 and who was raised in nearby Stockton, compiled a ten-year major
league baseball career as an outfielder. He played for six major
league
teams and played in three World Series during the years 1940 to
1943 and 1946 to 1951. In the interim he served in the U.S. Army
Air Force
during World War II.
McCormick at 6 foot 195 Ibs. compiled a
lifetime
.275 batting average in 748 games. He hit 100 doubles, 29 triples
and 14
home runs and had 215 RBIs. He played for the Cincinnati Reds
(1940-
46), the Boston Braves (1946-48), the Brooklyn Dodgers (1949-50),
the
Chicago White Sox (1950) and the Washington Senators (1951).

In the 1940 World Series McCormick batted .310 while playing for Cincinnati
and in the 1948 Classic with Boston he batted .261.
Mike McCormick began his pro baseball career at the age of 16 in 1933 with
the Cleveland organization, moving from class D to class AAA ball in six years.
A long time resident of Ventura prior to his death in 1976, Mike McCormick
was closely associated with the Ventura Youth
Basketball Association and the Foothill Little League. He is survived by his
widow Beverly who resides in Ventura.
