Dave Eggert

Each year the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame will dedicate its scholarships to the memory of a Ventura County high school or college athlete. This year's scholarship awards will honor the talents of David Eggert.

David Eggert was bom in Ventura on May 20,1970, and was a lifelong city resident. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1988, from Ventura College, and received a scholarship to California State University,
Northridge. In 1992, he was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 21st round of the June major league free agent draft.

David played right field and was a relief pitcher for Ventura High School before enrolling at Ventura College.

There, he helped his team take the Western State Conference title in 1989. That team had a record of 29-9, and David was an all-conference utility player.
He played the next two seasons at CSUN before being drafted by the Expos.

David began his professional career in the summer of 1992 with the Jamestown Expos of the New York- Penn League. The following season he was promoted to Burlington Bees, Montreal's entry in the Mid-West League. In 1994, David was assigned to the Hamsburg Senators, the Expos Double A affiliate in the Eastern League. David was due to report to Triple A Ottawa the following year.

David was killed in an auto accident on December 4,1994.
