Each
year the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame will dedicate its
scholarships to the memory of a Ventura
County high school or college athlete. This year's scholarship
awards honor the memory of Jesse Strobel.
"Of his own intiative, Jesse decided that he wanted to play football
and joined the Junior Packers during
the summer of 1988 at age 12. He played with the Packers for two
seasons before joining Ventura High
School's junior varsity team in 1990. He played football for the
next three years and was a defensive end in
his junior year.
"His jersey, number 40, was retired in his honor. In addition,
Ventura High School created the Jesse
Strobel Memorial Perpetual Trophy, to be presented annually to
the Defensive Player of the Year.
"Jesse loved the camaraderie of
the team spirit. Those of us who knew Jesse will always remember
his infectious smile, lighthearted wit, and gentle manner (off the
football field!). The integrity of his character
was such that the world is at a loss without his presence. We
will always feel privileged for having been his
mom and dad.
"Thank you for honoring Jesse's life and spirit.
"Sincerely, The Strobels"
