Michael Parick Connolly was born in Stanford, Connecticut on April 2,1949
and passed
away in Ventura on September 10, 2001. After graduating from Villanova University
in 1972,
he subsequently moved to Ventura in 1976. He immediately became involved in
community activities, especially those which were youth oriented. Michael served
as the Public Relations Director for the Ventura Gulls and the Fresno Suns.
He had most recently taught photography, English, and history at Pacific Hills
School in North Hollywood.
Michael was a founding member and past chairman of the Ventura County
Sports Hall of
Fame. For years, he worked to make the Hall of Fame Scholarship a reality.
The scholarships were initially funded by raffles held every year at the induction
banquets. He solicited the prizes, sold the tickets, and called the winners.
This year, Jostens has generously endowed the scholarships and Michael's dream
will live on in this memorial dedication.
Michael was the backbone of the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame
committee. His
quick wit, common sense, and willingness to take on any chore were inspirational
to all who were fortunate to call him a friend.
Michael is survived by his wife, Nancy, and children, Christopher, Tara, and
Eric.
